Addressing the Challenges Facing the National Weather Service with Dr. Louis Uccellini
This week Tyler and Dakota are joined by the Director of the National Weather Service (NWS), Dr. Louis Uccellini.
Dr. Uccellini has a storied career in the National Weather Service, serving in a variety of leadership roles. He served as the head of the National Center for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) for fourteen years, overseeing the operations of NCEP's nine centers including the Storm Prediction Center, the Climate Prediction Center, and the National Hurricane Center. Other roles Dr. Uccellini has served in include Director of the NWS Office of Meteorology, Chief of the NWS's Meteorological Operations Division, and head of the Mesoscale Analysis and Modeling Section at the Goddard Space Flight Center's Lab for Atmospheres. In 2004, Dr. Uccellini co-authored "Northeast Snowstorms" with previous Weather Junkies guest, Paul Kocin. This book has inspired "Powderhounds" across the East Coast including Weather Junkies host, Dakota Smith. Before joining the NWS, Dr. Uccellini received his PhD, Master's, and Bachelor's degree in meteorology all from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
